other than fist to cuffs sometimes there is not much else to do. I think it all boils down to entitlement, some assholes think that they are above everyone else and deserve what ever they please. Maybe next time before you go surfing get a makeup kit like they sell at halloween and put a big blistering sore on your face, when they cut you off paddle next to them and ask what do you think this is and i wonder if it's contagious? Remember to get as clase as possible and as they try to paddle away just start following them.

Nothing new about your concept. Thanks for posting up the surf drama. Exactly right, nothing new about it nor am I the only one who got dropped in on by the same dude from the above story. I see people get stuffed every time I surf, even you Mako. I remember last time I saw you get stuffed, you didn't say shit to the dude, though you are mighty tough on the forum. ( we need a strutting little rooster smiley just for mako) It's only "drama" because you want to make it "drama"... and it's still a better post/topic than anything you've put up in a year. So stick it, little man. I was kind of hoping the "hooded one" might read this and respond. -------------------- Happiness is a belt fed weapon.

I'm the paddle away from the person kind of guy at first. I'm not big into yelling while in the water unless it is a serious safety issue. I've yelled at kids doing that before but not ever sure if it was heard or even comprehended the right way. I certainly do not care to fight anyone over surfing, that is silly, but I do think that it is OK to rebuke someone who is possibly making the lineup unsafe. And I have never stuffed anyone for spite, but that doesn't mean I won't do it. If I am out of position then shame on me but if someone paddles around me more than once I have no problem taking off with them the next time. I like surfing the same spots simply because I know the people there and they know me. When newbies encroach then it is time to at least exert a little control over the etiquette in the water.

I have returned the favor a couple of times or have caught up to them and surprised them when they looked and saw me, but I do my best just to stay away from people like that. -------------------- Leverage the Boom of Online Shopping http://www.mypowermall.com/Biz/Home/8588

I have got to agree with the idea above that when you yell at people like this that only makes them feel like they are more justified in the first place. I mean if you were to (accidentally) cut someone off in traffic and they started screaming and becoming all crazy and cussing you would think to yourself "well that guy is clearly an asshole and deserved to get cut off". But if you cut someone off in traffic and then realized it someone who was actually pretty cool you would be like "Man I don't want to do that again cause this guy is cool and I am the one being the dick".
I dont know if that makes sense on the computer but it works in my head. Not that I am always cool out there either. I think I have been plagued by the same guy who likes to follow people around and get in their way. I just want to stop him and say "Hey, this isn't a heat, calm down, you aren't going pro any time soon, believe me I have seen you surf" cause it really pisses me off. But usually the few times I have actually talked to them it seems like it diffuses it pretty well. I mean it must be pretty embarassing when you know you are wrong to have someone come over and have to explain the rules to you. Again this only works if you are cool about it and act like you are trying to help them. That being said, as the water gets warmer, the washout WILL turn to a kook-fest and I will probably head back down towards the pier..... Dave |

You mean it's not just me that one time? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)
The pier is as bad or worse than the washout. Put those same mentality people on a 9 or 10 foot board and see what happens. I think the best thing to do is try and stay away from the perps and say nothing. Even if it means, much like an ill behaved child, they continue on in their ignorant bliss, never learning right from wrong. It aint my job to police stoopid and don't need to ruin my experience trying to do so. -------------------- Happiness is a belt fed weapon.

Nah not all the way down TO the pier, just towards the pier.
Two more things: 1. The idea of a pecking order is laughable and I think part of the problem. Everyone will find some reason or another to think that they DESERVE more waves than the next guy (they have lived here longer, they surf better,...) 2. I love my hood, it is so toasty, does that make me a kook? I would rather be that much warmer and look that much stupider I guess. Dave |

I do think there is a place for policing stupidity only because they could seriously hurt someone.

shouldn't it be "dropper inners"?
a strong sense of entitlement: this is MY wave. I paddled like hell to catch MY wave and although I may or may not catch, perform or accomplish anything on MY wave; its MINE and not YOURS. -------------------- a solid 51%

God, Not only is it bad enough that he's dropping in but the fact that he keeps paddling toward you is the absurd part. I HATE that with a passion, I tend to give really mean scowls if someone does that to me. Or I'll do dramatic sighs and secretly flip them off. If it gets really bad I will say something. I just dont get how some people either dont notice or care when they act like douchebags. That's why most times I prefer surfing with friends or alone at less known spots. I'd rather have tons of fun on a wave that's half a foot smaller then what's breaking at the washout then battle with agro guys/gals.
Anyone get out this AM? It was super fun! -------------------- Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. I went out around 12:30 ish for a little over an hour. My arms are well out of shape, that's for sure but I got a few good drops and faceplants...some nice walls. Cold at first but not bad. -------------------- Have a Nice Duh
